Nuwara Eliyais a lovely, small town in Central Province, Sri Lanka and has about 25,000 residents, the name means “city of light”. There is a small but bustling city, the less conspicuous by its individual attractions, but rather by their stunning surroundings. Why are the highlights of local walks in the surrounding hills and mountains and in the Horton Plains National Park.

Famous post office in Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya is well known for its well kept and colorful gardens, for its cooler climate fruits and flowers introduced at the behest of the great explorer Samuel Baker, and of course for its tea.
Nuwara Eliya was developed by the British as an escape from the heat and a cure for home sickness and at times resembles a quaint little English country village, complete with post office.
Due to the high altitude, Nuwara Eliya has a much cooler climate than the lowlands of Sri Lanka, with a mean annual temperature of 16 °C (61 °F), sometimes it can be as low as 3°C (37 °F).
